There seems to be an eternal argument about which is the better way to go: renting a home or buying one. The truth is, however, both renting and buying have their own pros and cons and depending on your lifestyle, situation, and preferences, there is no clear-cut winner.

In the past few years there has been a disturbing trend of unfortunate mistakes that have taken place at the expense of home owners around the country; homes have been foreclosed on and home owners evicted by banks who do not actually hold title to these homes.

Painting is one such lower-cost investment that you can make to brighten up your home; home buyers are often looking for a home that they can move into without investing a lot of time or money in before they can move in. A new coat of paint for the interior of your home can make a huge difference to the look of your home, making it feel fresh and often giving it some neutrality.

The weather is getting warmer and with the warmer summer weather comes the inevitable high cost that keeping cool causes home owners when they switch on their air conditioning. Across the nation, particularly in areas like California and Texas, home owners struggle to keep their homes cool. Rolling brownouts or blackouts have been experienced by many residents due to a shortage of electricity at times in past years.

Due to the number of vacant, bank-owned properties up for sale currently, it would be detrimental to the real estate market in many areas to have another glut of homes on the market and could potentially drive down prices further.

In many homes across the country, when home owners are evicted by their lenders, they have taken out their frustration on the home and taken appliances, plumbing, electrical wires, and other built in features out of the house to sell it or even just destroyed the home so that it would be worth very little to the bank.

The Future of Foreclosures in Florida

There should remain a good selection of homes and foreclosures for interested buyers for some time yet; though many home owners with foreclosures are finding solutions with managed mediation, there are still many homes finding their way to being bank owned properties.

Removable paper is also ideal for renters; often it is difficult for home renters to personalize their living space. Many landlords do not want tenants painting, much less installing wall paper into rental units because it is an added cost to cover or remove when those tenants leave.

The Continuing Saga of Chinese Drywall

One of the biggest issues in home real estate currently that isn’t directly related to home financing is the problem of defective Chinese drywall. This noxious product gives off sulphur gas—both carbon disulfide and carbonyl sulphide—which gives off a rotten egg smell and forms other compounds when it reacts with substances in the home.

It seems that the federal government is hedging many of their economic recovery plans on helping people to purchase homes and stay in their existing homes. A good deal of stimulus money has been set aside for helping home owners modify their existing mortgages or first time buyers get into homes; but the rising rates of personal bankruptcy is rocking the boat on home buying and mortgage paying.
