El Centro Real Estate: Do You Have A Schedule For Keeping Your Home In Top Shape?
We all have busy lives and time flies unbelievably fast. It is easy for some of our routines to get put aside until a later date. That really applies when it comes to keeping our houses shipshape. Not only is it important for out peace-of-mind to have a well-maintained El Centro home, it saves unnecessary expenses later and it keeps the home ready to put on the market or refinance. Here are a few suggestions, but you can certainly create your own schedule:

January: Call your utility companies to schedule an audit. Make sure everything is working well and not costing extra money through wasteful leaks

February: Make sure all your product warranties (appliances, AC, etc.) and manuals are up-to-date. Schedule any necessary maintenance

March: Clean gutters of any debris that may have accumulated during the winter

April: Schedule your inside and outdoor painting projects; changing the trim color can give your home a whole new look

May: Take down window screens; wash them and the windows inside and out

June: Fix or replace any outdoor furniture that needs help, wash and when necessary refinish decks and patios

July: Examine your crawl space for signs of mold or mildew and while you are at it go through the garage and any other storage areas

August: Do a major cleaning of your stove, refrigerator, washer/ dryer and any other appliances

September: Examine all weather stripping for wear, keeping it smooth and snug is as important in warm climates as it is in cold

October: Do a complete inspection of your heating/ AC system. Replace filters, examine pilot light, and vacuum vents and cold air returns

November: Get ready for holiday cooking by thoroughly cleaning kitchen appliances, throwing out outdated food, and organizing cupboards and pantry

December: If you decorate for the winter holidays now is the time to put up lights and other touches. If you do not then take a month off and relax

These are projects that you need to do throughout the year. It is so easy to put things off until they are all staring you in the face. If you make a yearly calendar it will make it easier to stay up-to-date with maintaining your El Centro home. It is good for your house and your own organization. Also, you never know when you may decide to sell your home and upgrade or refinance it for a major project. Another point to note is that should you want a new mortgage, having a shipshape home will give you an extra edge.
